COC &
Education
Since its foundation, COC Groningen & Drenthe had been offering training and educational sessions about sexual and gender diversity to secondary school and MBO students, as well as education professionals. Every year, our volunteers offer seminars at high schools and MBOs (secondary vocational education institutions) in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe.

Our education team offers seminars to students in secondary education and secondary vocational education. This team comprises well-informed volunteers who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community themselves. The power of our education sessions lies in the fact that students get in touch with peer support specialists who each share their own stories, experiences, and professional knowledge. This allows students to see beyond the LGBTQIA+ label and get to meet real people with lived experience. COC seminars are interactive and allow students to think about their personal values and standards concerning sexual and gender diversity. Our volunteers strive to create a safe and open atmosphere where everyone’s opinion is allowed and no opinions are forced.
Are you interested in hosting a session at your school?
The format of the session is flexible and can be suited to various lesson plans. For instance, it can be fit into classes on themes such as (gender) identity, sexual orientation, relationships, living arrangements, biases, exclusion, and discrimination. Moreover, the session can be linked to subjects such as citizenship studies, biology, and sociology. A session takes two teaching hours (90 to 120 minutes) and may be adapted to any class curriculum of secondary or secondary vocational education (MBO). We make sure to tailor each session to the students’ age and level (our educational sessions are in Dutch). Would you like to receive more information about our services, or request a session?
